Limo Hire In Croydon
Croydon Town is within the London Borough of Croydon, which is located to the south of London and borders the M25 motorway.
It is a place that once gave concrete jungles a bad name, an urban jungle famed for its tram system and some not so attractive architecture.
However, all this is changing. New Croydon is turning itself into a modern version of Barcelona, one of the coolest cities on the planet.
In the past, seen as a much-reviled town - whose one fragile connection with glamour is that it was the birthplace of Kate Moss, the home of JLS, the BRIT school which spawned Jesse J, Adelle and sadly no longer with us – Amy Winehouse , and various famous athletes – is building multi-billion pound regeneration schemes that will include pod-shaped buildings on stilts.
Croydon will become a beacon of sustainability. It will include a 30-storey version of the Eden Project with different plant species planted in "sky gardens" on each floor - inspired by the regeneration of Barcelona after the 1992 Olympics - scores of public squares and miniature parks throughout the town centre. It is hoped to reverse the car's stranglehold-The "forest of car parks" in the town centre will be hacked back, and the eight-lane Wellesley Road will be reduced to two.
There will be a pedestrian-friendly "emerald necklace" of parks, and the river Wandle will surface for the first time in 40 years since it was buried in culverts. People might even be able to fish for Wandle trout.
Glass apartment blocks will be linked by high-level covered walkways across the main Wellesley Road – it will be nothing like old high level apartment blocks of the past which are being demolished all over Britain as breeding grounds of vandalism and crime.
This is just one of a number of high profile schemes already started that will transform Croydon Town, the home of Ashanti Limousine Services, the number 1 limo service in the area. Croydon has received a £23m of funding that will further transform the town Centre. The money, from the Mayor of London and the Department of Communities and Local Government will fund a number of projects from East, West and mid-Croydon. These include:-
- Re-modelling east-Croydon main line railway station, the second busiest in the UK
- Strengthening, repairing and upgrading Croydon High streets, the aim of improving Croydon’s commercial core.
- New stores re-modelled shops fronts and better access to various entertainment complex.
- Add to the 20,000 new homes already planned – just for starters
The town centre population would be boosted from fewer than 5,000 to 50,000 by the building of 20,000 new homes. This is part of Croydon's bid to gain city status after years of being overlooked. Jon Rouse, the council's chief executive, said: "Croydon was a prosperous historic town in the 19th century and the history books show that it was a really pleasant place to come”.
"The Second World War completely blew it to bits. What grew up in the Sixties was one of the most wholehearted developments of Corbusian modernism. At the time it was seen as very exciting and pointed the time to the future. But it didn't work and it became seen as an alien structure imposed on the historic settlement".
Not many people know that Croydon is the second most populated borough in London with 350,000 residents. It is therefore surprising that Croydon is the greenest borough in London, with over 320 green spaces.
Croydon has more cinemas, theatres, restaurants and cultural & art buildings than any other town outside of central London. The Fairfield Halls and Dingwall theatres are famous and well known all over the world.
In fact, many agree that in a number of ways Croydon is a real alternative to the West End with local and cost effect restaurants and entertainment facilities. As a bonus, Croydon is very close to Gatwick and Heathrow airports and provides a surprising and varied range of hotels that can meet the needs of locals, tourists and travellers.
